Myanmar elite 'profits from $31bn jade trade'

Post by Saiua » Sat Oct 24, 2015 7:19 am

Jade mining companies connected to the army in Myanmar may have carried out "the biggest natural resources heist in modern history", say transparency campaigners Global Witness.

Their report claims jade valued at a staggering almost $31bn (£20bn) was extracted from Burmese mines last year.

It estimates that the figure for the last decade could be more than $120bn.

Nothing New. This had been done and happened since General Ne Win take over the country in the 1960s. No wonder Myanmar PEOPLE are dirt poor, even to this day.

Loss and waste of precious resources for skin deep insight creates chaos. Such a pathetic scenario. Ignorant is incurable disease and can damage the entire country for many decades. Selfishness creates self destruction in the long term (for others) where consequences stakes are high.

Chinese jade miners in overdrive ahead of new Myanmar government

Using heavy earth-excavators and explosives, miners have been tearing into Myanmar's northern hills in recent months, in a rush to excavate more jade from the world's richest deposits of the gemstone before a new government takes office next year.

Acres of forest have been felled, leaving behind craters, barren cliffs and a web of dirt tracks in the once-picturesque Kachin hills as the Chinese firms that dominate the jade business step up mining and aggressively seek new concessions.

They are anticipating the multi-billion dollar industry could change once Aung San Suu Kyi's election-winning National League for Democracy (NLD) party takes office with a promise of clean governance, those in the trade say.

The NLD has said it will bring in rules and competition and crack down on rampant smuggling that deprives the government of hundreds of millions of dollars in tax revenue, but skeptics doubt it will be able to do much in the remote, rebel-infested region.

2 things need to be done and done quickly (which I seriously doubt it because of selfish and ignorant tendacies).
1) Transfer of Power quicker (cut 2 months) and Burmese military swam the entire Kachin State in full check mate mode.
2) The rebels themselves joined in co-operation by incentives and wealth sharing Burmese Authorities.

The chinese wants this status quo of rebels infested Kachin State while acting they want peace between Kachins and Burmese which is just a ploy. Why? because the Chinese wants to exploit and destroy Myanmar's wealth and rob and rib it as kinda like a Rapist Action.
