The United States will not turn a blind eye to shortcomings in Burma’s election next month and US help to the future government and any more easing of sanctions will depend on the overall process, the top US diplomat for Asia said on Wednesday.
Assistant Secretary of State Daniel Russel told a congressional hearing Washington was “deeply, deeply concerned” by the treatment of Burma’s Rohingya Muslim minority and warned that the politicization of religion and the spread of hate speech could lead to election-day violence.
“We will make our assessment based on what we hear and see,” Russel said, adding that this would include the views of the political opposition led by Nobel Laureate Aung San Suu Kyi, election observers and the media.

Myanmar is currently under the influence of Military personals, both ex and current which is base and rooted on dictatorship mentality therefore creating a mixture or hybrid system of dictatorship and democracy combined. Even the 2008 constitution is founded upon dictatorship and censorship by military authorities who are responsible for the poverty of Myanmar people in past 5 decades. Especially the ethnic and religious minorities who suffer discrimination in a very serious manner. The military spawn political wing USDP is pose to take the power for another 5 years, currently now under the leadership of President Thein Sein (who coup out his rival Shwe Mann in a military way style) who never cancelled the Myitsone Dam project in regards to China and Chinese benefits not to mention he is “sued” by some group in US and had been summoned by US Federal Court making him look discrediting figure to rule Myanmar although he did not respond to Federal Court in US.

Aung San Suu Kyi herself blames the military for the poverty of Myanmar people during their rule for half a Century. During his (Thein Sein) rule (past 5 yrs) he makes Buddhism strong and enact laws that discriminates other religious minorities enbolded the extreme radical Buddhists to power making Myanmar a buddhist nation rather than equal or at least fair opportunity nation for all. This will seriously hinder the modernization and democratization of Myanmar in a very narrow minded, short sighted way.
Recent massive flooding in Burma is the proof when people who lacks knowledge, Education and Wisdom rules or by cutting trees and deforestation happens in a big way, these things (floods) does happened, especially monsoon seasonal country like Myanmar. Lack of KEW is the key for Burma's massive flooding.
