Hello everyone,

I am from the USA, I have lived outside the country for a few years. Currently in Cambodia teaching English but the pay here is very low. I have heard that Myanmar esl teachers make around $2000 USD a month, get a housing allowance and a few other benefits. Can anyone here give me more information about teaching English in Myanmar? Especially teaching in smaller cities (less than a million people)

Are any other jobs available to Expats and make around $2000 USD a month?

How about general life in Myanmar? I hear banking/money transfer is a pain also internet can be hard to get.
Anything else worth knowing about?
Not a whole lot of information available.

Thanks or reading I am interested in what anyone has to say.

On week 35 views no responses. Not even a hello from whoever approved my post...... I would say this forum is dead.
Though there is a few threads that are useful. Oh well I will still check back for any updates.

Most of expats I know works for NGOs. Yes you can teach but there are few schools that can afford foreign teachers and those that do demand good qualifications.

At the moment Cambodia is a lot easier and more welcoming to foreign workers, Burma has a long way to go.

Banking and money is easy, there are several ATMs in Yangon now, internet is also available in the major urban centers but non-existent outside of them.

Well thanks for the information.

If anyone else knows anything about teaching English in Myanmar let me know.
I am looking for Teaching English schools.
Most likely I will have to go into the larger cities for a decent salary.
I will probably do like I do everywhere just go and find a job by talking to schools.
Then in the evening find some teachers in bars and talk to them.

Hello, Coconut. I'm thinking of coming to Yangon on 13th July. Can you please let me know how you got on? I'd really appreciate it if you could. I taught in Phnom Penh for a year and found it a struggle, too.

Thanks in advance
